I was initially drawn to yoga by its potential for healing and spiritual growth, as well as a way to escape the gym; however, what I have received is so much more than that, I found my first true love. Yoga is the greatest teacher when it comes to learning about yourself, not only by exploring the physical body through poses, but the mental exercise of being present in each moment.
As a college student who works three jobs it's easy to allow stress and anxiety to seep into my life, but I find with a consistent yoga practice the negativity melts away from day-to-day. I am a devoted student to my practice, always learning, always growing. I find my physical practice challenging and humbling. In my teaching I place great emphasis on listening to your body and truly allowing yourself to experience what you're feeling with ego set aside. My spiritual practice has taught me greater acceptance of change and given me a more stable peace of mind.
For myself, the most beautiful part of yoga is: yoga is what you make it; it is whatever you're needing in the present moment. Each time we come to the mat is a unique experience. Some days you may be feeling strong and energized, preferring power or basics. And other days, you need to nurture the body and the mind with a restorative or gentle class. Yoga teaches you how to stay in tune with yourself and how to care for your physical and mental well-being. It strengthens the union between body, mind, and spirit, giving you the means to connect with yourself, to learn your truth, and to live your purpose each and every day. Yoga is everywhere, and once you allow yourself to be open to it you might be surprised to find it in the most unlikely places :)
Aside from teaching, I am a senior Business Marketing student at UNF, a certified swimming instructor, and a child care provider. You can find me at every Jaguars' home game with my grandpa and pulling for the Cowboys for my beloved Jason Whitten. I have a passion for good books, great conversation, and learning. I am a certified RYT-200 and completed my training at Mindful Motion Yoga in September 2011. Hope to see you around the studio! |
